Abstract

These Regulations amend the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016. They address failures in the Regulations and retained EU legislation to operate effectively and other deficiencies arising from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Modification of the EU Directives is set out in the Annex. These include, amongst others, the Water Framework Directive, the Waste Framework Directive, the Mining Waste Directive, and the Landfill Directive. Amendments of the 2016 Regulations concern, among other things, environmental objectives for specified waters, groundwater, and protection of European Sites and habitats.
