Abstract Aim of the present Act is an efficient implementation of the Regulation (EC) No. 761/2001 of the European Parliament and Council of 19 March 2001 allowing voluntary participation by organizations in a Community eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS). Objective of the said scheme is the evaluation and improvement of the environmental performance of organizations and the provision of relevant information to the public and other interested parties; the said EMAS shall also promote continual improvements in the environmental performance of organizations by: (a) the establishment and implementation of environmental management systems by organizations; (b) the systematic, objective and periodic evaluation of the performance of such systems ; (c) the provision of information on environmental performance and an open dialogue with the public and other interested parties; (d) the active involvement of employees in the organization and appropriate initial and advanced training. The text consists of 39 articles divided into 3 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Accreditation of environmental verifiers and environmental expert organizations, as well as their supervision, limitation of liability (2); Registration of organizations , costs, penalties, transitional and final provisions (3).
