Abstract

This Act provides for the continued activity of the "Environment and Land Use Committee", a non-remunerated office composed of a chair and other members of the Cabinet appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGC). Its duties and powers are listed as follows: (a) establish and recommend programs designed to foster increased public concern and awareness of the environment; (b) ensure that all aspects of preservation and maintenance of the natural environment are fully considered in the administration of land use and resource development commensurate with a maximum beneficial land use, and minimize and prevent waste of those resources, and despoliation of the environment occasioned by that use; (c) make recommendations to the LGC on any matter relating to the environment and the development and use of land and other natural resources; (d) inquire into and study any matter related to the environment or land use; (e) prepare reports and, if advisable, make recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor in Council (sect. 3). The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make orders necessary or advisable concerning the environment or land use (sect. 7).
