Abstract

This Act provides rules relating to employment in Botswana and the protection of employed persons. The Act creates the office of Commissioner of Labour and establishes the Labour Advisory Board and the Minimum Wages Advisory Board. Specific provision is made for the employment of females, and of children and young persons. Child labour is prohibited. If, having regard to the nature of the work involved in any occupation which forms part of an industrial or agricultural undertaking, the Minister considers that such occupation should be excluded from all or any of the provisions of provisions regarding employment of children or young persons relating to such undertakings, he or she may, by Order published in the Gazette, provide that employment in such occupation shall be deemed not to be employment in such occupation to the extent specified in the Order. The Act specifies conditions of labour also with regard to supply of food and water and provision of medical treatment.
