This agency shall apply the strategy and policy in qualitative and quantitative water resource management and monitor the compliance of water legislation. It shall, among other things, manage and maintain public water resources and waterworks, operate and supervise water quality and quantity monitoring systems, develop plans for river basins, and approve water-related activities. It shall also be a national focal point for international and transboundary water matters. Apele Române has in its structure 11 Water Basin Administrations.
