This Directive enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Abstract

This Directive is composed of 15 articles and 2 Annexes. Articles 1 and 2 deal with terms and definitions. This Directive shall apply to all oil producers and transporters as well as to gathering centres, treatment units and oil burners (art. 3). Article 4 defines the following general requirements and conditions for oils: (a) prohibition of the drainage of oils in sewage systems, surface and underground water sources as well as in the environment; (b) obtainment of previous authorizations for the aforementioned activities; (c) prohibition of the mix of oils with domestic solid wastes; (d) prohibition the use of oils for the production of energy in industries producers of food and foodstuffs; (e) prohibition of the use of non-treated oils for the production of energy in industries, firms and houses; (f) prohibition of the mix of oils with hazardous wastes; and, (g) prohibition of the spatter and splash of oils on the roads in order to eliminate weed and dust. Articles 5-9 deal with specific requirements and conditions for: oil producers; oil gathering centres; oil transporters; oil treatment units and oil recycle units; treated oils burners and oil used as fuel and coal. Article 10 entrusts the General Department for Environment Protection to carry out sampling operations of oil. Article 11 specifies health and security requirements and conditions for workers operating in oil fields. Article 15 contains offences and penalties. Annex 1 relates to the delivery of used oils. Annex 2 contains the specific form for the transportation of oil to gathering centres.
