The Directive applies only to centres that process fish for human consumption and does not apply to retail trade (art. 2). It shall be prohibited to process, handle, prepare, store or pack fishery products in installations that are not in conformity with rules laid down in this Directive and it shall be prohibited to trade in products that are not processed, etc. in conformity with the rules laid down in this Directive (art. 3).
