Abstract This Directive is composed of 7 articles and 2 Annexes. Articles 1 and 2 deal with terms and definitions. Article 3 prohibits the following: (a) to sell afflicted animals; (b) to keep afflicted animals in farms or in animal markets; (c) to transport or transfer afflicted animals by railroad, by road or by other means of transportation; (d) to leave afflicted animals in public places; and (e) to permit to afflicted animals to graze near a road. Article 4 defines measures to be taken against afflicted animals. Article 5 provides for disinfection and disinfestations of places containing afflicted animals. Owners of afflicted animals shall bury animals in holes with a depth of 1,5 m at least or to burn them at own expenses under the control of veterinary surgeons (art. 6). Article 7 lays down provisions to be applied to zones affected with Foot and Mouth Diseases. Annex (A) contains the Information Form concerning for zones contaminated by the Foot and Mouth Disease.
