This Directive enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Abstract

This Directive is composed of 17 articles. Articles 1 and 2 deal with terms and definitions. Article 3 decrees the prohibition to import, produce and distribute vegetable seeds without a previous registration at the Ministry of Agriculture. Article 4 deals with the competent authority entrusted with the registration of vegetables which should be requested by a scientific agency, authorized company or firm for the seed production or firm authorized to import vegetable seeds. Articles 5-11 deal with applications for the registration of vegetable seeds, necessary documents, registration fees, change of names as well as registration steps and measures. The Committee established according to article 17 of Agriculture Act No. 44 of 2002 shall follow and verify the compatibility of registered seeds and vegetables (art. 12). Articles 14 and 15 provide for the validity and revocation of the registration. Article 16 contains offences and penalties.
