This Directive came into force on 10 August 1998.

Abstract

The present Directive lays down the procedure to be followed when providing information in the field of technical standards and regulations. For the purposes of these provisions, “product” shall mean any agricultural product, including fish products. The information specified in article 2 shall be submitted to the Commission and to the standardization bodies referred to in Annexes I and II. Upon consultation of the Committee referred to in article 5, the Commission may draw up rules intended for the consolidated presentation of the information aforementioned, as well as a plan and criteria governing the presentation of the same information with a view to facilitating its evaluation. In accordance with article 11, the Commission shall report to the European Parliament, the Council and the Economic and Social Committee the results of the application of this Directive.
