Abstract

This Chapter of the Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) concerns diking districts. More specifically, it provides for petition for formation of diking district; duties of surveyors and viewers; apportionment of cost of dikes and dams; advertisement for bids, contracts, bond, personal subscriptions, and modification of plan; application for payment of assessments in installments; meetings of landowners, procedure, selection of advisory board and superintendent; superintendent, compensation, powers and duties, estimate of maintenance costs as basis for annual tax levy; deposit of district funds, payment of claims; damages and recovery by landowner; organization of repair and maintenance district for land already diked, levy in proportion to benefits, credit for original cost; realignment of dikes by landowner; vacation of right of way, reversion to original owner; county authority as to dikes and dams; appeals from county court; and dissolution conditions and procedure.
