Abstract

This Decree lays down new rules for the importation of living animals in Sweden so as to adjust Swedish legislation in this field on occasion of Sweden’s membership of the European Union. The Decree regulates the importation of livestock and other animals so as to prevent the spreading in Sweden of infectious diseases affecting animals and the introduction of exotic animals that may be harmful to domestic fauna. The Decree does not apply to cross-boundary reindeer keeping regulated by international agreements. The State Agricultural Office shall be the principal competent authority for purposes of this Decree and Regulation No. 998/2003 of the European Parliament and Council. The Decree concerns veterinary controls by public veterinary officers, importation permits, quarantine and other import control measures and regulation-making powers of the State Agricultural Office.
