Abstract

This Decree implements Council Directive 89/361/EC, concerning pure-bred breeding sheep and goats, as a consequence of the entry into force of the EEA Agreement on 1 January 1994. The breeding association for goats and sheep, with its main seat in Norway, and which shall establish and keep the pure-bred goats and sheep register, shall be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. Section 5 formulates criteria for the approval of pure breeds. Sections 6 and 7 make provision for the registration of breeds and section 8 for their identification documentation. Section 9 provides for importation from third countries and certificates of origin. (16 sections completed by 3 Annexes specifying criteria for the approval of breeding associations, prescribing a method for the calculation of "genetic values", and instructions for the importation of herd-book for sheep and goats)
