Abstract

The present Decree makes provision on the register of bovine animals, which represents an identification and registration system for bovine animals. The aims pursued are mainly the protection of human health as well as the protection of zootechnical resources. The register, on the other hand, represents a reference support for giving the necessary information to beef consumers through a clear and adequate labelling. The bovine register comprises: a) ear marks intended for identifying the animals (art. 3); b) animals' passports (art. 4); c) registers to be kept by enterprises (art. 5); d) a computerized database (art. 6). Articles 6 and 7 list out the duties that owners of bovine animals must comply with; article 8 specifies the obligations of operators responsible for slaughterhouses. Further provisions regulate the duties and powers entrusted to the veterinary services under the Local Health Authorities (art. 10), the Regions and Autonomous Provinces (art. 11) as well as the Ministry of Health (art. 12). Article 15 provides for the establishment of the Technical Coordinating Committee. Six Annexes are attached.
