Abstract The Decree provides for the importation of salt in the country in order to cover its domestic need, the supply of raw material to salt manufacturing industries, avoiding any inconvenience or preventing any loss of income to the local salt farmers. Salt K1 defines salt complying with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for salt as raw material, while Salt K2 and K3 do not fulfill the requirements of SNI but may, anyway, be processed in K1 or used for other assorted industrial needs or consumption. To import salt an individual or company must be a Registered Importer of Salt (SaltIT) and must be issued with a Importer Identity Number (API) by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
