Abstract

In order to optimize the utilization and management of fisheries resources of Indonesia, a fishery company "may make available" fishing vessels and fish-transporting vessels (art. 2). In supplying such vessels, priority shall be given to the construction of vessels by domestic shipyards. However, if such supply proves not to be sufficient, vessels may be imported (art. 4). A fishery company may import vessels for its own use in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Indonesia only and if it possesses a valid fishery business licence (IUP) (art. 5). Article 6 lists the types of vessels which may be imported. Chapter III provides for the abolition of the system of hiring fishing vessels carrying foreign flags no later than the year 2000. Various obligations are imposed on fishery companies wishing to import fishing vessels. (12 articles)
