Abstract This Decree, consisting of 8 articles, creates National Park of "Furna Feia" within the Municipalities of Baraúna and Mossoró, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. It establishes geographical coordinates of the above mentioned protected area (of a total of 8.494 ha.) in order to preserve the speleological complex of Furna Feia and its biodiversity related to biome of Caatinga; carry out scientific research and develop educational activities on environment, natural heritage conservation and ecological tourism. Control and management shall be under the competence of the Biodiversity Conservation Institution Chico Mendes. Mining activity within certain areas of the park are authorized by the National Department of Mining Production (DNPM) and licensed by the competent environmental authority.
