Abstract This Decree, composed of 5 articles, creates the biological reserve of “Mata Escura” in the municipalities of Jequitinhonha and Almenara in the State of Minas Gerais. The objective of the biological reserve is the protection, in that area, of the natural resources and biological diversity, even for the subsoil. The Decree indicates the spatial coordinates delimiting the protected area. The Brazilian Institute for Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA) is nominated by the Decree as the administrator body, in charge for the adoption of protective measures for the reserve.
