Abstract This Decree, composed of 9 articles, institutes the “Serra do Itajaí” National Park located within the municipalities of Ascurra, Apiúna, Blumenau, Botuverá, Gaspar, Guabiruba, Indaial, Presidente Nereu and Vidal Ramos, in the State of Santa Catarina. The aim of the Decree is to protect the biome of Atlantic Forest, to preserve the existing ecosystems, enabling the scientific research and the development of environmental activities. The Decree stipulates that the land included in the National Park pertains to the Union and, as such, shall be administered by the Brazilian Institute for Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA). Finally, the Decree rules on the composition of Natural Park’s Consultative Council.
