Abstract This Decree, composed of 6 articles, institutes the Extractive Reserve of “Capanã Grande Lake” in the Municipality of Manicoré, Amazonas State. The aim of the Reserve is to assure a sustainable use and conservation for natural resources, protecting at the same time the living traditions and culture of local extrativista population. The Brazilian Institute for Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA) shall administer the Reserve and the enclosed properties. The Reserve comprises an area of 304.146,20 hectares.
