Abstract This Decree, composed of six articles, institutes the “Tapajós” Environmental Protection Area (APA), located within the Municipalities of Itaituba, Jacareacanga, Novo Progresso and Trairão, in Pará State. The aim is to grant a sustainable management of the protected area, granting the joint participation of the government, the Brazilian Institute for Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), and local communities.
