Abstract This Decree, consisting of 7 articles, creates the National Programme for the Agricultural Zoning of Climate Risk (ZARC), established under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. The Programme aims to improve the quality and availability of information on climatic risks in agriculture of Brazil, with emphasis on the formulation, improvement and implementation of public management programmes and policies. The objectives of ZARC are: promote, coordinate and support projects, studies and actions of research and development of evaluation, quantification and monitoring of climatic risks in agriculture; coordinate projects for the development, operation or maintenance of public systems for the evaluation, quantification or monitoring of climatic risks in agriculture and dissemination of results; and information on the assessment, quantification and monitoring of climatic risks in agriculture to society. The objectives of the programme will be implemented through cooperation between federal, state, district and municipal agencies and bodies, organized civil society bodies and private entities.
