Abstract This Decree establishes the National Survey and Interpretation Programme of Brazilian Soils (PronaSolos), under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, with the support of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). PronaSolos has the following objectives: define the priority areas and the work agenda for the execution of soil surveys in geographic scales equal to 1: 100,000 or more detailed; carry out the soil surveys and their interpretations; structure and implement the national public information system on soils; organize the data obtained in soil surveys in the above mentioned system; and implement innovations in soil survey and related topics. The execution of the objectives of PronaSolos will be done in a cooperative manner between the federal and state, district and municipal bodies, civil society and the private sector.
