This Decree enters into force on the day of its publication.
Abstract

This Decree, consisting of 11 articles, creates the Spix's macaw ('Cyanopsitta spixii') Wildlife Sanctuary and its Environmental Protection Area. The Spix's macaw Wildlife Sanctuary is created with approximately 29,269 hectares of area and its Environmental Protection Area with approximately 90,661 hectares, in the Municipalities of Juazeiro and Curaçá within the State of Bahia. The Wildlife Sanctuary has the following objectives: protect areas of the Caatinga biome, especially the forest fragments of riparian forest and the savanna that are relevant to the life cycle of the Spix's macaw; and promote the adoption of agricultural practices compatible with the reintroduction and maintenance of the Blue Macaw in the wild. The Spix's macaw Environmental Protection Area has the following objectives: protect the biological diversity and natural environments, flora and fauna of the Caatinga; regulate the process of occupation of the hydrographic basins of the region of the reintroduction of the Spix's macaw in the nature, with emphasis in the watercourses of the Melancia and Barra Grande streams; protect and promote the recovery of vegetation formations in the area; and combat anthropic activities with the reintroduction and maintenance of Spix's macaw in nature.
