Abstract

The Protocol on the Implementation of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Cape Verde and the European Community (2019-2024) was signed in Brussels on 20 May 2019, under the Fisheries Partnership Agreement, concluded between the two parties on February 12, 2007 and nationalized in the Cape Verde through Decree No. 2/2007 of 26 March. This Protocol, including its Annex and Appendices, shall be valid for a period of five years and shall apply provisionally from the date of its signature. It shall establish the conditions for fishing by European Union vessels and the compensation due to Cape Verde, which undertakes to grant licenses to a total of 69 European Union vessels to fish in waters under its jurisdiction and receives a total compensation of about 3,750,000 Euros. The fishing authorizations to be granted by Cape Verde are intended for the capture of highly migratory species listed in Annex I to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea within the limits set in Appendix 2 to the Protocol, with the exception of protected or prohibited species under the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) or other international conventions.
