Abstract This Decree, consisting of 5 Chapters, creates the National Council of Traditional People and Communities. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Council (CNPCT), collegiate body of advisory nature, part of the structure of the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger. This Council CNPCT is entitled to: promote the sustainable development of traditional peoples and communities, in order to recognize, strengthen and ensure their rights, including for territorial, environmental, economic, cultural, traditional and ancestral knowledge and practices, their forms of organization and institutions; to propose National Conferences for Traditional Peoples and Communities, their preparatory steps and parameters for composition, organization and operation; to ensure the compliance with the conventions, agreements and international treaties ratified by the Brazilian government and other legislation related to the rights of traditional peoples and communities; to act on behalf of traditional communities in discussions and implementation processes and regulatory conventions, agreements and international treaties ratified by the Brazilian government and other; to coordinate and monitor the implementation and regulation of the National Policy for the Sustainable Development of Traditional Peoples and Communities - PNPCT and the National Sustainable Development of Traditional Peoples and Communities Plan, in collaboration with the competent bodies for its implementation, etc. The Decree is divided as follows: Nature and competence (Chap.
