Abstract This Decree, consisting of 121 articles divided into twelve Chapters, regulates animal health protection measures to be applied within the State of Tocantins. The animal health protection will be exercised by ADAPEC/TOCANTINS, through norms for the control and prevention of diseases that threaten the state economy, animal health, public health and the environment. Actions aimed at the control of prevalent diseases will be carried out in a progressive manner and guided by the epidemiological situation, with priority for communicable diseases of greater economic and sanitary significance. The programmes and actions for prevention and control of diseases and products for veterinary use will be regulated by the Executive Officer of ANDAPEC/TOCANTINS, which may establish general epidemiological surveillance measures, based on animal health and protection standards of the environment. ADAPEC/TOCANTINS is responsible for establishing, coordinating, supervising, planning and executing the State Animal Health Protection Programme, whose actions will aim at the control, eradication and prevention of infectious and parasitic diseases of domestic and wild animals in the State of Tocantins.
