Infection of human beings usually takes place after consumption of swine meat infested by Trichinella larvae. Post-slaughtering diagnostics of trichinellosis shall be based upon microscopic analysis method and enzymatic digestion of muscle in artificial gastric acid. Intravital diagnostics at farms subject to invasive diseases shall be carried out by immune methods or by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA test). Two samples of 60 g each shall be selected from each swine carcass, including frozen ones. Each imported swine carcass (half-carcass), in case of absence in accompanying veterinary certificate of reference to performance of trichinellosis testing, shall be subject to mandatory examination and testing.
