Abstract This Decree, consisting of 16 articles, establishes the new organization, operation and management regime of the National Institute of Fish Inspection, created by Decree No. 18/2005. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Institute, entitled to carry out the following activities: a) issue sanitary licensing of production units and operators of processing, handling of fishery products and by-products; b) issue health certification of fishery products; c) carry out research and service programmes as a result of official controls; d) perform health control and surveillance actions.
