Decree No. 68 of the Federal Mining and Industrial Survey validating the Regulation on safe operation and subsoil protection in the process of development of salt deposits by resorption through boreholes from surface crust.

Abstract

This Decree establishes that brine extraction facilities shall be considered mining industry carrying out extraction of solid salt by underground resorption through boreholes from surface crust and also extraction of brine. It shall be mandatory for all enterprises operating brine extraction boreholes. Project of brine extraction facility must envisage: (a) efficient management of balance deposits; (b) protection and rational management of soil; (c) assessment of geological and hydrological properties of saliferous rock; (d) safe operation of boreholes for the projected period; (e) reliable registration of quantity and quality of extracted brine; and (f) environmental impact assessment (EIA). Salt-bearing section in the territory projected for development of salt deposits by resorption must meet the following criteria: (a) to have consistent cover thickness; (b) to have digging depth complying with technical capacities of the available equipment; and (c) to contain scattered non-soluble material not exceeding 30 percent relative to mass.
