Abstract This Decree, consisting of 5 articles and one Annex (specifying the geographical coordinates of the area), creates the State Forest of the Northwest, in the Municipalities of São José do Rio Preto and Mirassol. This State Forest is a nature conservation unit, with a total area of 379,935ha. This area is defined in the attached descriptive memorial, which is an integral part of this decree. The State Forest will be under the administration of the Secretariat of the Environment, through the Forest Institute, with the following objectives: sustainable multiple use of forest resources and scientific research, with emphasis on methods for sustainable exploitation of native forests; development of scientific researches of production and management with native forest species; promotion of technological transfer and technical-scientific exchange; development activities of environmental education, leisure, sport and culture; environmental recovery of specific areas, with planting of native species, expanding the ecological preservation by the Ecological Station of the Northwest and providing the increase of its quality and protection.
