Abstract This Decree approves the Regulation on the tariff regime for new and renewable energy. This Regulation, consisting of 20 articles divided into five Chapters, aims to establish the tariff model for new and renewable energy, referred as REFIT, in order to promote and guarantee the diversification of the energy matrix and the safe supply of electricity. REFIT applies to electricity generation projects based on renewable sources, developed by natural or legal persons, public or private, under the terms of this Regulation, in order to connect to the national electricity grid. For the purposes of this Regulation, the following sources of new and renewable energy sources are: a) Biomass; b) Wind; c) Hydropower; and d) Solar. The tariffs set out above apply to electricity produced by independent power producers in plants with a capacity of less than or equal to 10MW using renewable sources. The Minister overseeing the energy sector may authorize its application for projects of a higher dimension and with a proximity to the National Electricity Grid.
