Abstract This Decree approves the National Strategic Plan for Protected Areas (PNAP) laying down its principles, guidelines, objectives and strategies, under the Convention on Biological Diversity at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development - UNCED in 1992, promulgated by Decree No. 2.519 of 16 March 1998. The implementation of the PNAP will be coordinated by a Commission established within the range of the Ministry of the Environment and will have the participation and collaboration of representatives from the federal, district, state and municipal governments, indigenous peoples, quilombola communities and extractive communities, business sector and of civil society. The implementation of the PNAP must be evaluated every five years, after hearing the National Environment Council (CONAMA), the National Foundation of the Indian (FUNAI) and the Special Secretariat on Policies for the Promotion of Racial Equality of the Presidency of the Republic.
