Abstract This Decree is composed of four Chapters divided in 29 articles. It rules on the sanctions applicable to the activities and behaviors jeopardizing the genetic heritage and related traditional knowledge. The penalty provided for in the Decree will be increased by half if the sample is obtained from a species included in the official list of Brazilian fauna threatened with extinction and in Annex I of the CITES. The penalty provided for in the Decree will be applied twice if the sample is obtained from a species included in the official list of Brazilian fauna threatened with extinction and in Annex II of CITES.
