Abstract This Decree, consisting of 13 articles, creates the Marine Protected Central Coastal Area within the State of São Paulo (APA Marinha do Litoral Centro). It regulates conservation and protecting measures to be applied within this area with the objectives of: protecting, managing, guaranteeing and controlling the rational use of their regional natural resources, including water, management of recreational tourism, research and fisheries activities and promoting the regional sustainable development avoiding any pollution activities in the region. The APA covers the following Municipalities: Guaíbe, Bertioga Guarujá; Itaguaçu, Santos, Carijó, São Vicente, Praia Grande, Mongaguá, Itanhaém e Peruíbe.
