Abstract This Decree, consisting of 8 articles, creates the Sustainable Management Programme of the Family Farming within the Rio Grande do Sul State. The above mentioned Sustainable Management Programme has the following objectives: to guide farmers through a management and adequacy plan of its rural area, designed from the current use and occupation of lands and the sustainability index, in order to have agricultural, livestock and environmental productions integrated in other public policies, such as: agricultural, environmental and water resources through the dissemination of agro-silvopastoralism techniques of sustainable production; and to establish a sustainable management system of rural property, in order to monitor and evaluate all rural activities on the property, aiming to promote the qualification of processes as well as social, economic and environmental inclusion of farmers who will benefit from assistance.
