Abstract

This Decree amends Decree No. 42.047 on groundwater management and conservation in Rio Grande do Sul State. Amended article establishes the following provision stating that in the areas of well protection and other groundwater abstractions, an Immediate Sanitary Protection Perimeter of concrete with a minimum size of 1 m² should be established. Wells must be equipped with a sanitary seal installed in accordance with the technical standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), regarding the construction of wells for groundwater abstraction. In addition to the Immediate Perimeter of Sanitary Protection, a perimeter of pollution warning can be established, based on hydro-geological studies and considering, mainly, the transit time of the pollutants, being that in this Perimeter restrictions should be established on activities and services. Prior authorizations for drilling wells, and groundwater abstraction, including exemptions, will only be issued by the Department of Water Resources (DHR).
