Abstract This Decree, composed of 8 articles, institutes the Programme for Amazonian Protected Areas (ARPA). The aim is to expand and consolidate the Protected Areas located in Amazonian biome in order to grant biodiversity conservation and in the region and support the sustainable development with a decentralised and participatory approach. The Decree sets the overall and specific objectives of the programme and indicates the managing bodies/procedures.
