Abstract This Decree, composed of 41 articles divided in five Chapters, regulates management and conservation of groundwater resources and aquifers in Rio Grande do Sul State. In particular, the Decree rules on use, concession, authorization and wells’ registration for groundwater resources. Moreover, it requires preventive measures, such as aquifers’ protection, and control procedures. Finally, the Decree defines sanctions and penalties for non compliance with the provisions therein set.
