In accordance with the Svalbard Act of 1925 and the Spitsbergen Treaty of 1925 this Decree of the Ministry of Environment provides for the establishment of 3 national parks, 2 nature reserves, and 15 bird reserves. Chapter II contains conservation rules specifically for national parks, nature reserves, respectively bird reserves. National parks shall be as far as possible protected from "technical interventions" only hunting for grouse, transit by residents in cars, scientific research and some construction may be allowed by the District Governor of Svalbard. In the nature reserves trawling for shrimps shall be allowed in waters with a depth of more than 100 meters.
