Abstract This Decree approves the Regulation for the Use and Exploitation of Reservoirs and Lakes. The purpose of this Regulation is to establish the legal regime for the use and exploitation of reservoirs and lakes, including the respective adjacent intervention areas located in the inland waters of Mozambique. The classification of reservoirs is mandatory and it is up to the Regional Water Administrations to initiate the process and propose it to the Ministry that oversees the Water Resources area. The Regional Water Administrations is responsible to prepare the proposal for the Classification of Reservoirs in the respective area of territorial jurisdiction. The classification of the reservoirs is approved by the Minister who oversees the Water Resources sector, after consultation with the Ministers who oversee the areas of Inland Waters and National Defense.
