Abstract

This Decree approves the Regulation for Plant Sanitary Protection. This Regulation, consisting of 143 articles divided into ten Chapters, establishes the Plant Sanitary Protection requirements. In the national territory, import, trade, transit and export shall be prohibited for: a) plants and parts of plants, when carrying dangerous diseases or pests; b) live insects, mites, nematodes and other pests harmful to plants at any stage of development; c) cultures of bacteria and fungi harmful to plants; d) boxes and other packaging which have been used for the transport of related products; e) land, compost and plant products which may contain, insects and other pests harmful to plants. For certain plant species, at the discretion of the Plant Protection Service, land may be allowed to be imported, obligatorily subject to disinfection. Only for experimental purposes in scientific establishments of the country, the Ministry of Agriculture may allow the import of specific material. Ministry of Agriculture shall introduce into the country, species of insects, fungi, bacteria, etc., which are known to be useful and to which the prohibition is not applied. The Ministry of Agriculture may prohibit or introduce special conditions for the importation of any plants, parts of plants and agricultural products originating from countries contaminated by diseases or pests.
