Monitoring shall be carried out within the boundaries of any plot of land on which waterworks are located. Monitoring shall include compliance with safety criteria and the environmental impact of waterworks with a view to prevent disasters. The main functions of monitoring shall be: (a) inspecting the stability of industrial waste holding ponds; (b) inspecting water levels and water composition indices of holding ponds; (c) inspecting filtration; (d) registration of stored drilling sludge; (e) registration of the discharge of drainage water and emissions of pollutants into environment; (f) registration of disturbed (degraded, polluted) and re-cultivated land; and (g) inspection of polluted groundwater and surface water.
