Abstract This Decree defines Private Nature Reserves (RPPN). It consists of 18 articles establishing the requirements to be met by private protected areas and prohibiting every activity interfering with natural ecosystems' preservation. This Decree also establishes that Private Nature Reserves shall be managed by the individual owner of such reserves. It also prescribes financial incentives' requirements, legal procedures to be applied and sanctions to be paid by offenders to Ibama.
