Abstract

The present Regulation establishes maximum residue limits for radioactive nuclides (caesium-137 and strontium-90) in foodstuffs and potable water (RDU-99). The purpose of the present Regulation shall be to reduce the doses of inner exposure to radiation of the population that shall be achieved through the restriction of entry of radioactive nuclides with the foodstuffs. The sphere of application shall be the whole national territory. The excess of the established maximum residue limits for radioactive nuclides in foodstuffs and potable water shall entail the decision made by the authorized institution on the prohibition of trade and distribution through public catering of the aforesaid foodstuffs and potable water. For foodstuffs the annual consumption of which does not exceed five kilograms (spices, tea, honey, etc.) the maximum residue limits shall be set ten times higher than those set for common foodstuffs.
