Abstract This Decree, consisting of 10 articles, creates the State Committee for the Reserve of the Biosphere of the Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul (CERBPan-MS). It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned State Committee, established within the State Secretariat of Environment and Economic Development, with the objective of supporting the State Executive Branch in the establishment of public policies, identifying priority areas and propose strategies for the implementation of the Pantanal Biosphere Reserve, and the dissemination of its concepts and functions. The CERBPan is responsible for: I - coordinate the implementation of the Pantanal Biosphere Reserve (RBPan), in accordance with the guidelines of the National Pantanal Biosphere Reserve Council, the Brazilian Commission for the Man and the Biosphere Programme (COMBRAMaB) and the Brazilian Network of Biosphere Reserves; II - promote the integration of municipalities, local communities, non-governmental organizations, research centers and private sector segments in the implementation of the Pantanal Biosphere Reserve (RBPan); III - to propose guidelines of governmental policies for the conservation of biodiversity; IV - elaborate and propose the RBPan State Action Plan, defining priorities, methodologies, schedules, partnerships and areas of action; V - prioritize sustainable development within the Pantanal's domain and its related ecosystems; VI - give advice in programmes, projects and projects planned in the area corresponding to the RBPan; VII - consider, together with the surrounding States, issues related to RBPan in neighbouring areas; VIII - carry out periodic evaluations of the situation of the RBPan and its Plan of Action, proposing measures to improve its implementation.
