Abstract

This Decree requires a fishermen's census to be carried out in the Norwegian fisheries sector. The scope of the census prescribed by the present Decree is to secure the registration of all fishermen resident in Norway involved in marine fishing or the hunting of marine animals. The census consists of 2 parts: fishermen shall be registered in Part A or Part B depending upon their involvement in fisheries, to be calculated on the basis of occupied time and earnings. Part A shall contain all fishermen for which fishing is a side activity, whereas Part B includes all fishermen for whom fishing is the principal occupation. Section 4 outlines the criteria for registration in Part A and section 5 specifies criteria for registration in Part B. The census shall be carried out by the Fisheries Boards. The central register shall be kept by the Directorate of Fisheries. Inclusion in one of the 2 Parts may constitute a requirement for being admitted participation in fishing.
