This Regulation, consisting of 21 articles divided into five Chapters and three Annexes, aims to regulate the activity of supervision, control and enforcement of compliance with environmental protection standards at national level. Regarding the environmental inspection, the Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Action is responsible for: Carrying out inspections in accordance with these Regulations and other applicable legislation; Verify the compliance with laws, norms and regulations related to the environment in the whole national territory; Filing the necessary documents for the sanctioning of violators of the current norms on environmental issues; Activate the legal mechanisms, in coordination with competent entities; Participating in the Public Prosecutor's Office all infractions that violate the environmental values protected by law and subject to criminal prosecution. The environmental inspection can be of two types: Ordinary, when carried out in the context of the implementation of planning activities of the Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Action; and Extraordinary when it is carried out with a view to achieving certain objectives relating to any public or private activity which may jeopardize the environment.
