Abstract This Decree redefines functions and competences of the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM, IP). The INAM, IP is the entity responsible for the exercise of meteorological activity at national level. INAM, IP, has its headquarters in Maputo and cooperates with two regional weather forecasting centers in Sofala and Nampula. INAM, IP, is represented at the local level by provincial delegations and meteorological stations. In particular, INAM, IP is entitled to: a) exercise its authority over meteorological activity at national level; b) carry out scientific research in the field of climate change, astronomy, natural disasters and meteorological applications; c) elaborate weather and climate forecasts for the public, aviation, marine and other interested parties; d) meteorological, climatic and technical information necessary for the definition of national policies related to the risks of natural disasters of meteorological origin; e) provide for meteorological and climatic information necessary to guarantee the sustainable development of the national economy; f) coordinate matters relating to the execution of international treaties, conventions and agreements relating to meteorology.
