Abstract This Decree creates the Brazilian Food Bank Network and the Management Committee of the Brazilian Food Bank Network. This Network is aimed at strengthening and integrating the performance of food banks, with a view to contributing to the reduction of food waste in the country and to guaranteeing the human right to adequate food. Food banks are physical or logistical structures that offer the service of reception and free distribution of foodstuff from donations from the public or private sectors to: I - public or private institutions providing social assistance, protection and civil defense services; II - educational institutions; III - institutional care units for children and adolescents; IV - penitentiaries, public jails and detention units; V - health establishments; and VI - other food and nutrition units.
